Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season

The Eagles capped off the scheduled 2023 campaign at No. 13 UC San Diego with postseason water polo fast approaching.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Biola finished the 2023 regular season with its best record in the team's history, despite a loss on Thursday at UC San Diego. The Eagles hit the road for their bout against the 13th-ranked Tritons and fell in a 17-8 fashion.

BU ended the year with a 18-12 overall record and a perfect showing in conference play at 4-0. Next on the slate for Biola, the team will head to McKendree for the WWPA Championships beginning Friday, November 17.

On Thursday, the Eagles trailed early and could not find their footing against a tough top-15 squad. UCSD scored 11 times in the first half and built an eight-point lead in 16 minutes of play.

The halftime break did well for the BU squad. Biola came out in the third quarter hungry for goals, winning its first period of the night. The Eagles capitalized in the final two minutes of the third for a 4-2 advantage in the quarter.

Maxwell Osborn brought a spark in waning seconds, hitting a buzzer beater for BU's fourth goal of the third stanza.

Joshua Halopoff stood out on the attack, leading the Eagles in the scoring column. The senior piled on four tallies, matching a career-best for the veteran.

Biola men's water polo will now enter the WWPA Championships, facing Mercyhurst in the opening round on Friday, November 17 at 11:00 am PT.
