LA MIRADA --- The opening for the 2023-24 Biola Men's Basketball campaign is right around the corner. The Eagles are set to host the PacWest/CCAA crossover on Friday and Saturday to kick off the new year. The three newest Eagles will get their first gameday experience as an Eagle with Myja White, Facundo Aranda, and Scott McDowell beginning their journey at Biola.
The BU squad continues to be led by Dr. Dave Holmquist, who is entering his 44th season at the helm.
Holmquist hit win number 1,041 in his career last season, guiding the team to a 18-11 overall record. BU placed fifth in the PacWest for its regular season slate but then triumphed over the fourth seed in the opening round of the conference postseason tournament to reach the semifinals.
The BU roster looks very familiar, as the team only graduated three players, while bringing in three new faces.
The incoming class is coming from all different parts of the western hemisphere, including Facundo Aranda from Mendoza, Argentina, Myja White from Indianapolis, Indiana, and Scott McDowell from San Juan Capistrano, California.
Despite the small number, Holmquist is excited to see what the incoming class can bring to the team now and into the future.
2023 Newcomers:
Myja White
Coach Holmquist: "Myja, who is a graduate student from Indiana, will bring a lot of experience to the team. Myja was a starting two guard at Miami of Ohio University who plays excellent defense, hits the open shot, and makes everyone better with his passing skills and feel for the game."
Facundo Aranda
Coach Holmquist: "Facundo is a freshman point guard with excellent ball handling skills, who has worked hard the past few weeks to strengthen his defense."
Scott McDowell
Coach Holmquist: "Scott is also a freshman point guard who has fine play making skills and brings plenty of spirit and intensity to every practice."
