Forced Overtime

The women's basketball team forced Humbolt into overtime, but despite a great fourth quarter comeback would fall 63-53.

AZUSA, Calif.---The Biola women's basketball team forced Cal Poly Humbolt into overtime, but despite a great fourth quarter comeback would fall 63-53.

Humbolt led 16-10 after the first quarter and the Eagles would play catch up until the game clock read 4:28 in the second. Kaylen Kamelamela downed the go-ahead three that put the Biola up, 18-16.

Four possessions later, it was Kamelamela who expanded the lead by putting away a basket that brought BU up by four (20-16). However, the Jacks would make the last two baskets which tied the game up at 20 heading into the halftime break.

Biola scored the first three baskets of the third quarter which gave them an early six-point lead (26-20). The Jacks answered back quickly, scoring the next five baskets which gave them control once again (30-26). 

The Eagles held onto their faith, ending the third down by six and continued to fight when Humbolt grew their lead to 13 points in the fourth quarter. 

Biola showed their fight, chipping away at the Jacks' lead until they were only down by a basket. Jordan Rabe cut the lead to two with 1:06 remaining in regulation. Thirty-six seconds later, Cal Poly Humbolt was sent to the charity stripe and stretched their lead out to four points after downing two free throws (50-46).

With eighteen seconds remaining in regulation, Rabe put the Eagles back in it by making a downtown shot which left BU chasing by one point (50-49).

Biola caught a break in the next possession where Humboldt fouled Alyssa Kubo and she forced overtime by landing one of her free throws (50-50).

Cal Poly Humbolt went on a 8-0 run to start the overtime period and pulled ahead for a 58-50 lead. A layup by Laila Walker cut Cal Poly Humbolt's lead to six, but the Jacks' managed to score again in their next possession which forced BU to send the Jacks' to the free throw line and put the game out of reach.

  • Offensively, Walker led Biola with 14 points and she was followed by Rabe (13) and Kamelamela (12).
  • Defensively, Walker led her team with three steals, Rabe led Biola with three blocks and Natasa Radovic led on the boards with seven rebounds.
  • Biola outscored Cal Poly Humbolt 18-12 when they came back from behind to force the Jacks into overtime.
Biola plays next on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Simon Fraser with a 7 p.m. start time.
