Biola Shows Resilience

The women’s basketball team showed their ability to be resilient in their 51-42 victory against Westcliff.

LA MIRADA—The Biola women's basketball team showed their ability to be resilient in their 51-42 victory against Westcliff in Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles and Warriors went back-and-forth for points in the first quarter but it was Westcliff who would come up on top 13-11 heading into the second. The Warriors slightly out-scored BU 13-11 in the first frame with Jessa Thurman leading her team with six points.

Thurman was also the Eagles leading scorer of the night who totaled 12 points.

When Thurman was asked about her team's performance she responded, "I think we all worked together really well to find our strong suits."

Thurman continued,  "They were kind of clamming us in the middle so we were able to kick out, get to our open threes and we were able to knock them down."

More than half of Biola's points were scored from beyond the arc shots. Jaycee Goldsmith led the team, going 3-for-3. Biola's next best was Thurman who was 2-for-2 in the first quarter.

Biola turned things around in the second quarter where they out-scored WU 13-8. Thurman led her team with four points and she was followed by Natasa Radovic, Kaylen Kamelamela and Alyssa Kubo who all downed a trey.

The Eagles and Warriors were battling to hold the lead, but this time around BU would be triumphant and own it heading into the third quarter. Kamelamela made the game-tying downtown basket with 56 seconds remaining (21-21) and then Kubo sunk in a three which put BU ahead 24-21.

Biola distanced themselves in the third quarter where they out-scored Westcliff 15-7. BU steadily grew their lead until they were up by 11 at the end of the frame. Eleni Cabrera put the Eagles' up 39-28 with a layup in the paint.

The Eagles grew their lead to as much as 15 points in the fourth (47-15). Jordan Rabe supplied the basket that put them ahead 47-32.
