Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Billi Derleth, Assistant Sports Information Director

BU Stunned at CPP

The women’s basketball team lost 71-39 to Cal Poly Pomona at Kellogg Arena.

POMONA, Calif.---The Biola women's basketball team struggled against Cal Poly Pomona's strong offensive showing in the first quarter which would end up being too much for the Eagles to overcome in their 71-39 loss at the Kellogg Arena.

"It was definitely a tough loss but there's a lot we can learn," reflected Jordan Rabe. "We need to work on starting off stronger and playing the full 40 minutes as a team. We need to get a lot tougher and focus on scoring more in the paint."

The damage was done for the Eagles in the first quarter where the Broncos set the pace with 25 points to BU's four. Biola was 1-of-14 from the field matched against CPP who was 9-of-18. The Eagles' four points came from a Jaycee Goldsmith beyond the arc basket and one good free throw from Natasa Radovic.

However, Biola showed steady improvement throughout the remaining three quarters.

The Eagles came back ready to battle in the second quarter where they limited Cal Poly Pomona to nine points while scoring seven.

Biola went on to have their strongest outing of the night in the third quarter where they scored 15 points to CPP's 17. The Eagles cut down the Broncos' lead to as much as 15 points on a three-pointer by Goldsmith. However, CPP would build their lead back up to 25 points by the end the third (51-26).

The Eagles scored 13 points in the fourth, but the Broncos put up 20 which gave them a dominant lead. CPP led as much as 32 points in the final frame and ended the game up by 32 in their 71-39 win.

Rabe concluded, "Moving forward I want to see us come together as a team and play more as one. We're a good team with a lot of potential but we need to play with confidence and understand the shots will start falling soon enough."
