Successful Sweep

Biola picked up a win at home on Monday, defeating the Sharks in three sets.

LA MIRADA --- Biola volleyball (14-6, 10-4 PacWest) got the job done on its home court with a comfortable victory on Monday night. The Eagles hosted  the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific (3-16, 3-12 PacWest) and took care of business with a quick, 25-16, 25-11, 25-21 victory.

Biola's depth got a chance to shine with nine different Eagles landing a kill. Payton Tully paced the squad with 10 kills on 14 swings for a .571 hitting percentage. "We got in a great rhythm tonight," said Tully. "We came in off a tough loss on Saturday but we did a great job bouncing back with a win today."

Abby Brewster did her best to set up her teammates, compiling 19 assists for the Eagles. Brewster added eight kills to her impressive outing and was proud of her team for their consistency on Monday, "Tonight, it was great to see us come out strong in the second set, take care of business, and not let up at all."

Dominique Kirton did well to land seven kills in only two sets of action, boasting a hitting percentage of .600.

Defensively, Abigail Copeland thrived with three solo blocks. The BU squad also refused to allow a single ace for the Sharks.

Set One: Biola opened the match with four rally wins and then expanded the lead with a five-point run, creating a 10-3 advantage. The BU attack was at top efficiency scoring 13 kills with a .435 hitting percentage. The Eagles peaked their lead at 12, before cruising to a 25-16 finish.

Set Two: Once again, the Eagles scored the first four points of the set. BU built a 10-point lead by 15-5 with the help of three kills from Dominique Kirton and Emily Smith. Biola never stopped pushing its advantage, capping off a 14-point rout at 25-11.

Set Three: HPU got hot early, picking up its first lead of the contest. The visitors maxed their lead at 10-7, before it was Biola's turn to make a run. Tully added a pair of kills to aid a 6-1 BU run, propelling the Eagles ahead for good.

Biola will be right back inside Chase Gymnasium on Wednesday, taking on Chaminade at 7:00 pm.
