Chavez Leads Eagles to Victory

Abby Chavez led the Biola women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Chaminade with a goal and an assist at Saint Louis Field.

HONOLULU, Hawaiʻi--- Abby Chavez led the Biola women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Chaminade with a goal and an assist at Saint Louis Field.

Chavez had a hand in both of the Eagles' goals this afternoon, tallying an assist in Biola's first gal and eventually what would be the game-winner in the second half.

Peyton Nelson scored Biola's first goal in the 38th minute, which put BU up 1-0 before the halftime break. Chavez threw in the ball to Briley Phelps who passed it on to Nelson who then tapped it in. Both Chavez and Phelps were credited with assists on Nelson's goal.

Biola struck again in the second half, this time Chavez was the goal scorer and she was assisted by Marije Rechin. Chavez connected with the corner kick from Rechin and sent the ball just under the crossbar which put BU up, 2-0.

Chavez's goal would end up being the game-winner because the Silverswords would strike back in the 84th minute which made the final score 2-1.

Biola improved 2-9-1 overall and 1-4 in the PaWest Conference while Chaminade fell 6-3-3 and 4-1-1 in the PacWest.

The Eagles play next on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 10 p.m. PT at Hawai'i Pacific.
