Walker Wrecks Sunbirds

The women’s basketball team took down Fresno Pacific in a 71-55 win, Laila Walker led the floor in scoring with 28 points.

LA MIRADA--- Laila Walker headlined in the women's basketball teams' 71-55 win over Fresno Pacific at Chase Gymnasium. Walker led her team, scoring a career-high of 28 points in 28 minutes on Saturday afternoon against the visiting Sunbirds. 

"We really showed our depth tonight and keep getting better and better as a team," reflected Walker. 

The first and second quarters were closely fought with the score being tied five times and with four lead changes. Biola began to break away toward the end of the second quarter where they built up a healthy eight-point lead heading into the third quarter.

From then on out the Eagles held the lead. Biola stretched their lead by as much as 22 points in the final frame. Biola sank three three-point shots in the fourth quarter. Walker led her team with two and Sydney Moran and Natasa Radovic also chipped in a beyond the arc basket.

Overall Walker thrived downtown where she put down nine baskets. Aysia Johnson, Jordan Rabe and Moran were also successful with three-pointers all averaging 50 percent or higher past the three-point line. 

Jessa Thurman and Rabe owned the boards, leading the floor with nine each and Jaci Bolden showed off her defensive strength with three steals.

Biola improved to a three-game winning streak, 6-8 overall and 6-2 in the PacWest Conference, while Fresno Pacific fell 4-11 and 0-9 in the PacWest. 

The Eagles play next at home in a non-conference game against Bethesda at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
