Taking the Challenge

The California Baptist Mini Tournament continued on Friday with the Eagles falling to Southern California.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- BU women's water polo faced one of the top teams in the nation on Friday, battling with the Trojans of Southern California. Second-ranked USC defeated Biola by a 20-6 final margin.

Kourtney Pyle provided the offense for the Eagles, landing three goals in the contest. Pyle was the first to score for BU, logging a pair of goals in the second quarter. All three of her goals came off of USC exclusions with two five-meter penalty shots and one off a powerplay.

The Eagles put together their best stretch in the second quarter, tallying three scores, while finishing the half strong. The final two and a half minutes of the stanza saw a 2-1 Biola edge with scores from Pyle and Lizzy Birch.

Rachel Spadt and Maria Roldan Gonzalez also recorded goals in the second half but the lead from the Trojans was too much.

Biola will have another two-match day on Saturday, facing Azusa Pacific at 11:45am and Pacific at 3:30pm at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
