Ending on a High

The women’s basketball team ended their Hawai’i road trip with a 61-44 win over Hawai’i Hilo.

HILO, Hawai'i--- A big third quarter allowed the Biola Women's Basketball team to walk away with a comfortable 61-44 win against Hawai'i Hilo at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

The first and second quarters were tightly fought between the Eagles and Vulcans. Biola led by one point after the first quarter, thanks to two good free throws by Jaci Bolden (14-13). The second quarter continued to be close where the lead changed five times between Biola and Hawai'i Hilo until BU got up 23-21 and began to distance themselves. Biola continued to create an eight-point gap (32-24) that the Vulcans cut down to six (32-26) before halftime.

Biola demonstrated a big third quarter that would give them a generous lead over Hawai'i Hilo. The Eagles outscored the Vulcans 17-7 in the third quarter and built up as much as a 16 point advantage. Laila Walker led the third quarter scoring with eight points, followed by Natasa Radovic with five, Jordan Rabe with two and Jessa Thurman and Madi Chang with one point each.

The Vulcans came back with a competitive fourth quarter, but Biola remained consistent in their scoring and continued to lead the remainder of the game until their eventual 61-44 win.

"We know each other's strengths and know how to use them, which we showed tonight," stated Radovic. "I think that we have a really talented team and knowing that we had some players out tonight was even more motivation for us to fight and get the win at the end of this trip."

Radovic led the scoring effort tonight, totaling 15 points. Walker was close behind with 11 points followed by Rabe who had eight. Radovic and Walker led their team in three-pointers, downing three each. Sydney Moran also fared well beyond the arc where she went 2-for-3.

Walker also recorded her first double double of the season with the addition of 10 rebounds.

Biola improves 9-9 overall and 8-3 in the PacWest Conference while Hawai'i Hilo falls 6-10 and 3-7 in the PacWest. Biola is currently ranked fifth in the conference standings while the Vulcans sit in eighth.

Biola will head home and prepare to play next on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Azusa Pacific. The Eagles and Cougars are set to play at 5:15 p.m.
