Biola Battles

The women’s soccer team battled against Cal Poly Humboldt, but ended up losing 4-3 to the Jacks at College Creek Soccer Field.

ARCATA, Calif.--- The Biola University women's soccer team battled it out against Cal Poly Humboldt Thursday afternoon at College Creek Soccer Field. The Eagles (1-3-1) and Jacks (3-1-1) played an intense match up that resulted in a 4-3 win in Humboldt's favor.

The Jacks were the first on the scoreboard with the first two goals of the game in the 4th and 17th minutes (2-0).

Biola found the openings they were looking for in the 23rd minute. One minute proved to be all that was necessary for the Eagles to tie up the match, scoring two goals in the minute. Freshmen Marije Rechin and Peyton Nelson teamed up for the Eagles first goal, 2-1. Thirty-eight seconds later, Rachel Melvin set up Abby Chavez with the game-tying goal (2-2).

Anna Boyer made two crucial saves in the final minutes of the first half, keeping her team in the game and the score tied. Boyer would go on to make four saves in the second half, making her game total seven saves in the airtight match.

The Jacks experienced some deja vu going in the second half, scoring again the first two goals of the half.

Biola retaliated with a goal in the 76th minute, courtesy of Halie Jamir and Nelson. Jamir set up Nelson with a good pass and Nelson took care of the rest, scoring her second goal of the match and the second of her career (4-3).

The Eagles fought to tie up the game, but were unable to bridge the gap resulting in the 4-3 final score in the home team's favor.

Biola plays next on Saturday, September 10 against Chico State at 12:30 p.m. at University Soccer Stadium.
