Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Stacking Up The Wins

Biola scores 19 times as it cruises to a big win over McKendree to open the weekend.

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Biola Men's Water Polo netted its second-most goals in program history to open the Gary Troyer tournament early Friday morning. The Eagles piled on 19 scores in a runaway 19-11 win over McKendree.

Biola controlled the action from start to finish in this one, scoring back-to-back to open up a 2-0 lead and never once trailing. McKendree tied the match at 2-2 and again at 4-4, but once Biola scored four-straight to open up an 8-4 lead the match was never particularly close again.

It was a nice start to the weekend for the Eagles, who answered back from a 10-8 loss against this McKendree team at this Gary Troyer tournament one year ago.

Ten different Biola players scored in this one to add up to the 19 goals. Maxwell Osborn led the way with another standout offensive effort. He scored five goals with four of those coming inside of the first nine minutes of the match.

The second and third periods were the most lopsided in Biola's favor, with the Eagles combining to outscore the Bearcats 9-3 in that 16-minute span of play. Osborn, Nolan Rapp and Kenny Wulf each had two scores during the middle part of the game to help towards the big effort.

Rapp also accounted for one of Biola's four fourth-quarter scores, but that period was more so meant to highlight some of the non-starters for the Eagles. Freshman Nick Murray was one example of this as he scored two goals, the first two of his collegiate career.

Up next for the Eagles is a rematch with Mount St. Mary's at 2 p.m. today. The Eagles and Mountaineers (8-5) battled to a 14-11 contest in favor of The Mount earlier this month in Maryland.
