Slow Start to Saturday

The Cal State LA Invitational continued on Saturday with a morning matchup between Biola and Central Washington.

LOS ANGELES --- One day after a pair of five-set matches, the Eagles were right back to it on Saturday morning. The team took the court against Central Washington but struggled to put points on the board for a CWU sweep.

The weekend bout featured two teams that received votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Top-25 poll. Both squads were on the outside looking in with CWU earning 40 points and Biola nabbing 23.

Despite the 3-0 finish, Biola held a lead in all three sets of the match. The Eagles were strong on the attack in the early going of each set, landing kills to gain slight advantages.

The pace would change each time though with the Wildcats finding their groove to take control. In the mid-to-late set, CWU put together long scoring streaks to secure each game.

BU's best stretch came in the third set. Madison Beebe went on a run at the service line, as the Eagles piled on seven-straight points. Three different Eagles tacked on a kill in the run with Anna Aubele and Kendall Vandertuig both collecting two kills.

Abigail Copeland offered a nice outing at the net, posting five kills and a solo block with a .300 hitting percentage.

BU will look to bounce back with its final match at the Cal State LA Invitational at 3:30 pm.
