Eagles End Non-Conference Slate

Biola volleyball wrapped up non-conference play on Saturday and will now shift its focus on PacWest competition next week.

LOS ANGELES --- The Cal State LA Invitational came to a close on Saturday, as the Biola volleyball squad (3-4) took on the host team. The afternoon matchup was one-sided with CSULA (5-3) taking the 3-0 win. For the third-straight match, BU faced off against an opponent who was ranked or receiving votes in the national poll.

The Eagles struggled to put points on the board on Saturday, trailing in kills to the Golden Eagles, 47-33. BU was unable to reach 20 points in any of the three sets, despite resilient rallies.

In the opening set, BU fought off six set-point opportunities for CSULA. The Eagles would not relent easily, as Kendall Vandertuig landed three kills in the run to cut into the deficit, before the Golden Eagles capitalized on their eighth attempt at set-point.

Biola never truly found a consistent rhythm on the day. The team never led in the second or third set, keeping within range but could not make the comeback push.

Abigail Copeland provided volume and efficiency on the attack. The middle blocker tallied a season-high of eight kills, while boasting a .800 hitting percentage. She added to her day with team-bests in solo blocks (2) and block assists (2).

BU libero Bri Bellfi added her third match with double-digit digs in her freshman campaign, logging 14 in the second match on Saturday.

The Eagles will now look to regroup for their home opener on Wednesday against Azusa Pacific at 6:00 pm.
