Sunbirds Shine Against Eagles

The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds shined in a 2-0 win against the Biola Women’s Soccer team on Thursday night.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola University women's soccer team fell to Fresno Pacific 2-0 at Al Barbour Field on Thursday night.

The women are now 1-6-2 overall and 0-1 in the PacWest Conference, while the Sunbirds improved 5-2-2 overall and 2-0 in the PacWest.

The Eagles and Sunbirds played a scoreless first half. Biola slightly outshot Fresno Pacific 6-5, three of which were on target to Fresno Pacific's two.

After the break, it was FPU who breached the scoreboard first. In the first 10 minutes of action, the Sunbirds scored two goals in the 45th and 49th minutes.

The Eagles worked to get some momentum rolling their way but seemed to be countered by the Sunbirds' defense at every turn. The Sunbirds' goalkeeper Monique Neverez made two crucial saves in the final frame that kept her team in the lead.

Anna Boyer made a valiant effort in the goal. She faced a total of 10 shots, five of which were on goal and made three saves.

Biola totaled 12 shots in the night and had five on goal. Frances Andrade, Halie Jamir, Peyton Nelson, and Marije Rechin each had a shot on goal. Rechin led the Eagles with two.

The Eagles play next Thursday, October 6 at 10 a.m. against Academy of Art at Paul Goode Field in San Francisco, Calif.
