Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Mitchell Gets One

Mitchell Carpenter scores from across the pool as Biola plays it tight against No. 13 UCSD.

LA JOLLA, Calif. — After a great time away in Colorado, Biola Men's Water Polo got back to business in a Western Water Polo Association contest at No. 13 UC San Diego.

The Tritons scored three of the matches' first goals to set the tone early and then outscored Biola 4-1 in the fourth quarter to extend their way out to a 15-7 final score.

The loss drops Biola to 0-4 in WWPA play and helps the Tritons move to 3-0 in conference contests. It's UCSD's second-consecutive win as they continue to bounce back from a 12-11 loss to No. 11 Pepperdine.

The highlight of the match came as time expired in the third quarter and sophomore goalkeeper Mitchell Carpenter deposited the ball at the back of the UCSD cage for his first goal of his Biola career.

The UCSD team made the decision to pull their goalie into the field in their last attacking attempt of the period and it backfired in a big way to give Biola a huge lift and make the game at that point an 11-6 contest.

Dominic Hidalgo-Valecillo and Nolan Rapp were Biola's leading scorers in this match with two goals a piece. Both men also added one assist to lead the team in points as well.

Carpenter made nine saves to lead all goalies and extend his season tally to 125.

Biola moves on to another busy tournament weekend with the local Gary Troyer tournament. Tomorrow the action begins with a 10 a.m. matchup against McKendree. The Bearcats are 2-7 so far this season. Most recently they lost 21-12 against a Mount St. Mary's team Biola played to a 14-11 score line.

Coincidentally enough Mount St. Mary's is Biola's second opponent of the day tomorrow. That one is scheduled for a 2 p.m. opening sprint.
