Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Eagles Launch Winning Streak

Biola picks up a 13-10 win over Ottawa for the program's first winning streak.

Air Force Academy, Colorado — For the first time in program history Biola Men's Water Polo has a little winning streak going. The Eagles dispatched Ottawa (Ariz.) by a score of 13-10 on Sunday morning to open the final day of the Rare Air Invitational.

This win, paired with last night's victory over LIU, gives Head Coach Rick Nordell's team back-to-back in-pool victories for the first time.

John Grasso got Biola off to a strong start by scoring the first two goals of the game. It was Grasso's first time finding the back of the net since September 10, and it is his second time this year with two or more goals.

The Eagles, who split in two matchups with Ottawa last year, were determined to get out to a strong start in the matchup, and they did just that.

In a relatively low-scoring affair the Eagles asserted their position of prominence right away by taking a 4-1 lead following a Will Tibbetts goal with just over six minutes left in the first half.

As the second quarter progressed, the BU lead dwindled and then disappeared as Ottawa scored three goals in a row. A goal on the team's final possession of the first half allowed Biola to go into the break up by one goal. The one was scored by the red-hot Gavin Oliver with just 13 seconds before the break.

The third quarter was the difference-maker in this game as Biola out-scored the Spirit five goals to one. The Eagles' defense nearly blanked OUAZ in the third period, but the Spirit netted one with 19 seconds left in the third. Up until that point the Eagles scored five goals in a row, including three from Nolan Rapp, to take a 10-4 lead.

Ottawa did manage a late charge in the fourth quarter to tighten the game up to within two goals with just about two minutes left in the contest.

Biola did not let go of its grasp on this one, instead doubling down with a late Adam LaVoy goal in the final minute to bring the contest to its final tally of 13-10. LaVoy had two goals. He, Rapp (2), Grasso (2), Maxwell Osborn (2) and Oliver (2) each scored more than once in this win.

For the second-consecutive contest, the Biola goalkeeping was locked in and blocked more shots than goals allowed (12 saves).

Biola improves to 4-10 with the victory. The team closes out the Rare Air Invitational at 1 p.m. PT with a matchup against Augustana.
