Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Eagles Nab Another Win

Biola beats Long Island 17-7 to get its third victory of 2022.

Air Force Academy, Colorado — Consistent high-volume goal scoring led Biola Men's Water Polo to a win with a +10 scoring differential on Saturday, as they took home a 17-7 victory over first-year program Long Island at the Rare Air Invitational.

The Eagles tallied four goals in four goals in the first, four goals in the second, six goals in the third and three more in the last stanza in building up their impressive offensive output in this match.

The third period was the biggest difference-maker as Biola out-scored the Sharks 6-2 in that period to head into the last quarter of the match with a very, very comfortable 14-6 lead.

Maxwell Osborn led Biola with five goals in this one, which included a stretch of play where Osborn netted three-consecutive goals for his team as he scored tallies eight, nine and 10 for the Eagles between the second and third quarters.

He was not the only Eagle to score three or more in this one, as the freshman Gavin Oliver recorded his first-career hat trick. He's scored at least once in each of the last four contests for Biola.

Oliver converted on three of his four shots in this contest to lead all Eagles who shot more than once with a .750 shooting percentage. The Eagles were converting at a high rate all night long against the LIU goalkeeper, recording their second-best shooting percentage of the season (.531).

Jonas Huckabay contributed to that high shooting percentage as the converted swimmer scored twice in three attempts down the stretch to record goals 16 and 17 for his squad. It was the second multi-goal game of the season for Huckabay.

Biola's goalkeepers recorded a combined tally of 10 saves in this one and both had a save percentage greater than 50. The goalies also accounted for two of Biola's 11 steals. The turnover game was critical in this win as BU managed 11 takeaways and only coughed the ball up twice.

The win brings Biola's season record to 3-10 and officially puts them ahead of last season's win total. With 19 regular season contests still on the schedule there is potential for that number to grow exponentially even still.

The next shot at a win comes on Sunday where the Eagles face-off against Ottawa (3-7) at 8 a.m. PT and Augustana (9-2) at 1:30 p.m. PT. Augustana beat Ottawa 15-14 on Saturday and faces Air Force before playing Biola on Sunday.
