Biola volleyball nabbed its second five-set win of 2022, taking down No. 7 CSU San Bernardino on Friday.

LOS ANGELES --- Match two of Friday's double feature for the BU volleyball squad was a total reset for the Eagles. Biola (3-2) turned it up a notch, as it battled the seventh-ranked CSU San Bernardino Yotes (5-1), forcing them to a fifth set, while completing the impressive victory.

Head coach Aaron Seltzer loved the effort and fight from his team, "I'm so proud of the girls bouncing back after a tough, tough loss this afternoon. To mentally come back from that shows we are maturing and growing as a team. This was truly a team effort."

The back-and-forth affair resulted in the first loss of 2022 for No. 7 CSUSB. The two teams were both featured in the latest AVCA Top-25 poll, as the Eagles received votes for the second week in a row.

For the second-straight match, BU needed a fifth set to determine a winner. Biola and CSUSB traded three-point rallies early on for a 4-4 tie in the final game. Bri Bellfi helped the Eagles build a four-point lead with back-to-back aces. With six points to go, BU had the edge it needed.

Errors propelled the Eagles' cause in the final stretch, as one service error and two attack errors from the Yotes moved the scoreline to 13-7. Madison Beebe and Anna Aubele eliminated all doubts with each landing one last kill to end the set at 15-8 and ultimately the match at 3-2.

Aubele saved her best for last, logging seven of her 10 kills in the final two games. Three of them came in the fifth set, helping secure the big win.

The offense was a full team effort for Biola. Seven different Eagles reached five kills in the contest, combining for a hitting percentage of .220. Abby Brewster was one of the players to hit five kills but also set up most of the attack with 43 assists.

The Eagles showed grit in the opening set to push forward early in the match. CSUSB held a three-point advantage through most of the set but BU pushed back. Biola scored three-straight points to open up a 21-20 lead and then the back-and-forth began. The two teams traded points until 27-26, leading to a set-winner from Beebe.

Beebe shined in the top-tier matchup on Friday. The outside hitter nabbed 18 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, which both made for season-bests. She also posted her first double-double of 2022, adding 13 digs.

The contest was evenly fought, as evident in the team stats. Biola edged CSU San Bernardino in digs (46-45), kills (62-56) and assists (57-48).

Dominique Kirton also offered a strong showing, logging 11 kills. The double-digit kill effort was the second of the season for the outside hitter.

BU will be right back to the grind on Saturday at 10:30 am continuing at the Cal State LA Invitational against Central Washington, before facing the host squad CSULA at 3:30 pm.
