Biola Breaks Even

The women’s soccer team broke even in their exhibition game against Hope International, resulting in a 3-3 tie.

LA MIRADA--- Hope International made the first impression on the scoreboard, but the Biola University women's soccer team made the last in the 3-3 draw at Al Barbour Field.

HIU led the way headed into the second half with a 1-0 lead thanks to the Royals' Sarah Ralston — a name that will be repeated tonight.

The Eagles came back from the break with a solid approach and better execution, scoring the next two goals. The first was a team effort by Christine Maranville and Serena Andrade. Maranville passed the ball upfield to a ready Andrade who found her opening and tied the game (1-1). The Eagles' next goal was a solo shot by Peyton Nelson (2-1).

Biola held the lead until the 76th minute where HIU's Ralston scored her second goal of the game and continued to notch her third goal in the 82nd minute, giving the Royals the edge (3-2).

With eight minutes remaining in the game, the Eagles held their composure and continued the effort to create an opportunity.

And one would come their way in the form of capitalizing on a corner kick. Halie Jamir took the corner and sent the ball toward an eager Erika Haugen who tied the game up (3-3).

Anna Boyer faced 11 shots and made two saves on the night in the 3-3 tie.

This match did not impact Biola's record or statistics because it was an exhibition contest, but it was countable for the Royals.

Biola plays next on Saturday, September 24 at 3:30 p.m. at Concordia Irvine. The Eagles and Golden Eagles will square up in a non-conference matchup at Eagles Field. For more game day information, check out the women's soccer schedule.
