Rechin Records Two

Freshman Marije Rechin recorded two goals in her debut at Al Barbour Field, helping the Eagles come back from behind and defeat Cal State San Bernardino 3-2.

LA MIRADA --- True freshman Marije Rechin made her debut at Al Barbour Field with a game to remember, scoring her first two collegiate goals in the Eagles' home opener against Cal State San Bernardino. Rechin helped her team come back from behind to defeat the Coyotes 3-2.

"Mimi (Rechin) continues to improve every day in training and she maximized her opportunities in the attack," reflected head coach Erin Brunelle. "She is playing with confidence well beyond her years and executed well in front of goal."

Biola started off strong, scoring the first goal of the match courtesy of two freshmen, Peyton Nelson and Rechin. Nelson was able to send a good pass over to Rechin who fired the ball to the upper-right corner of CSUSB's goal in the 21st minute.  A little over a minute later, San Bernardino responded with a goal of their own and quickly tied up the match, 1-1. The Eagles and Coyotes proceeded to go back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, until San Bernardino got the upper hand with a second goal with just 11 seconds remaining until halftime (2-1).

BU came out of the break determined, and found an early opening in the second half. Abby Chavez drew out the goalie and then dished the ball over to Sarah Freed who scored the game-tying goal in the 47th minute (2-2).

The Eagles continued to dominate possession of the ball, eventually scoring the game-winner in the 63rd minute. Chavez and Rechin teamed up for seconds. Chavez chipped in her second assist and Rechin achieved her second goal of the night (3-2).

For the remainder of the match Biola leaned in on their strong defense. Anna Boyer made a save halfway through the frame and contributed four saves overall to keep BU in the game.
Biola plays next Saturday, September 3 at 4:30 p.m. against Stanislaus State at Warrior Stadium. Check out the women's soccer schedule for more game day information.
