HAYWARD, Calif.-- The second half proved favorable to Cal State East Bay as they made their way onto the scoreboard with a goal in the 49th minute to top Biola University at Pioneer Soccer Stadium, 1-0.
After 45 minutes of scoreless play and a nearly identical stat sheet, East Bay broke the standstill in the fourth minute of the second half. The Eagles pushed back, but did not find the opening they needed to tie up the match. The Pioneer's goalie made two saves that thwarted Biola's attempts to get some momentum going their way, including a bottom right shot by Abby Chavez in the 83rd minute.
Biola outshot Cal State East Bay 10-9, but CSUEB edged BU 4-3 with shots on goal. Chavez led the offensive effort with two of the three shots that were on target.
On the defensive side, Anna Boyer and the Pioneer's goalkeeper had three saves each in the intense match.
The Eagles will now return home and prepare for their home opener on Wednesday, August 31 against Cal State San Bernardino at 7 p.m. at Al Barbour Field. For more information, check out the women's soccer schedule.
