Duncan Does It

A three-run walkoff home run capped off a four-game sweep of Hawaii Pacific, as Wyatt Duncan plays hero on Thursday.

LA MIRADA --- Thursday ended with a crazy one, as game two left everyone in awe with a walkoff homer from Wyatt Duncan. The seven-inning affair involved controversial calls, a complete game, six scoreless frames and a walkoff three-run homerun in a 3-2 Biola victory. The game two win marked a four-game sweep for Biola over the visiting Hawaii Pacific Sharks.

The Eagles entered the seventh and final inning down by two on Thursday afternoon. HPU shutout BU through the first six innings for a 2-0 scoreline in favor of the visitors. With their final outs coming up the meat of the lineup came to the plate. After a leadoff out, Oscar Serratos reached first with a single to the opposite field.  Rylan Greenlee followed with a walk, putting the tying run on first and bringing the go-ahead run to the plate.

The next batter was popped up to the shortstop for the second out. The last chance for the Eagles rested in the hands of Duncan. The first baseman entered the game in the fourth but provided the win in the seventh, sending the first pitch of the at bat over the fence in right-center. The long ball scored all three runs of the game for BU and ended the game for a 3-2 Biola victory!

The clutch game-winner from Duncan made good on an impressive complete game from BU starting pitcher Brayden Englert. The senior logged all seven innings for BU on the mound and tallied his fifth win of 2022.

All five runs between the two teams came by way of a homerun, as the Sharks nabbed a two-run shot in the second.

The visitors' homer was the only blemish for Englert. Through seven innings, Englert accumulated three strikeouts and got better as the game went on with stellar sixth and seventh frames.

The long ball has played an important role for the Biola offense with 59 total in 2022. The impressive total ranks second in the PacWest.

The Eagles will return to the diamond on Tuesday, May 10 for a home doubleheader against Azusa Pacific beginning at 12:00 pm.
