Sunbirds Fire Back

A pair of Saturday contests got away from Biola for a weekend split against Fresno Pacific.

FRESNO, Calif. --- A Friday sweep for the Eagles switched into a Saturday sweep for Fresno Pacific, as the two teams split the four-game series this weekend. Following back-to-back double-digit offensive showings, the BU offense was slowed in 10-3 and 5-0 losses on Saturday.

A quick start for FPU changed the momentum from the previous day. Four runs came through for the host squad in the opening inning, which preceded one in the second and three in the third.

An 8-0 lead increased to 9-0 in the fifth but the Eagles responded in the seventh. Oscar Serratos logged his fifth triple of the season to help BU impact the scoreboard for the first time. The season total of five triples ranks 15th in all of NCAA DII in 2022.

The seventh continued with a walk and a pair of outs for Biola, leaving runners on first and third with two outs. Back-to-back singles made the most of the situation, as Taylor Justus and Bobby Brown added RBI base hits.

The lone rally was not enough for the 10-3 finish in FPU's favor.

The important offensive push never came for BU in game two, as the home team finished off a 5-0 shutout. Biola found movement on the base paths in the fifth and sixth, putting a runner in scoring position in both but could not land the RBI hit.

The Eagles will return to action at home against Hawaii Pacific with a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 12:00 pm.
