The Eagles pulled out a 4-3 victory on Saturday, eking by the visiting Concordia Eagles.

LA MIRADA --- What a close one it was, as Saturday's match between Biola and Concordia nearly needed every singles match to determine a winner. Sebastian Herrera notched the match-winner for Biola, as BU went on for a 4-3 triumph at the Biola Tennis Center.

The day seemed to be heading towards a dominant Biola win with strong doubles play. The start heavily favored the hosting Eagles, beginning with Herrera and Carlos Solorzano picking up a 6-2 win. Alexei Prokopchuk and Antonio Rosales Varona tallied the same score to nab the doubles point, leaving court No. 3 unfinished at 5-2 in Biola's favor.

BU and CUI split the first two singles matches with a pair of straight-set finishes. Prokopchuk put BU up 2-0 with a No. 2 singles victory. The redshirt junior tallied his team-best 17th singles win with sets of 6-2, 6-4. CUI responded right after with a point from court No. 5 for a 2-1 BU lead.

The rest of the way went the distance with each contest fighting to the bitter end in the third set.

Rosales Varona added a third point for Biola, starting with a narrow, 7-6, first set triumph. The two traded the second and third set at 6-3, giving the BU redshirt junior the three-set win.

Tomas Gomez pulled off a 7-6 win in the first set similar to Rosales Varona to get on the front foot. CUI responded though, answering with back-to-back sets of 6-4 and 6-0 to cut down on their deficit at 3-2.

The fate of the match rested on courts No. 1 and No. 6, as the visitors needed both to capture the upset. That did not happen under Herrera's watch. The No. 17 ranked singles player in the nation edged out Leon Czarnikau, thanks to a 6-2 set number three. The first two sets were determined by razor thin margins, needing a tiebreaker for each. The fourth point was scored by Herrera and clinched the match for Biola.

The 38th-ranked Eagles improved to 13-6 overall in 2022 and will now look forward to a matchup against Saint Katherine on Tuesday at 2:00 pm.
