Non-Conference Stinger

The Eagles fell in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, following three matches in consecutive days.

LA MIRADA --- A tough matchup waited for the Eagles on Wednesday afternoon, as the BU squad entered its third-straight day of competition. The No. 3 men's tennis team in NCAA DIII came to play, as Washington University in St. Louis (7-2) edged out Biola (11-5), 5-2 at the Biola Tennis Center.

Alexei Prokopchuk highlighted the day for BU. The redshirt junior helped the Eagles score a win in No. 1 doubles with his partner Antonio Rosales Varona. The duo offered up a 6-2 set together, improving their season record to 10-4 as a tandem.

Prokopchuk did not give up another game throughout the rest of Wednesday's competition. Both sets of his No. 1 singles match ended 6-0 in his favor for his 12th straight-set win and 14th singles win in 2022.

Isaac Cordova scored his eighth singles victory to give Biola its second point of the match. The sophomore tallied a 6-3 set one, before finishing off the win with a 6-4 second set. The match was his third on court No. 4 and remained undefeated this season with three wins from that spot.

Unfortunately, those were the only two points the Eagles could gather on Wednesday. The visiting Bears opened up the contest with a pair of dominant showings in doubles to collect the first point.

Courts No. 2 and No. 5 fell in WASHU's favor in straight-sets fashion but the final two spots went the distance. Alex Sedeno and Andres Meneses did well to manage their opponents early on with wins in set number one. The Bears responded though, taking set two on both courts and ultimately taking the match as well in the final set.

The Eagles will look to get back on track with conference play resuming against Metro State next Thursday, March 24 at the Biola Tennis Center at 2:00 pm.
