Streak Ends at Four

A four game winning streak for the Biola Eagles came to an end on Thursday night at the hand of Academy of Art.

BELMONT, Calif. --- A feisty Biola defense was terrorizing its foes, heading into Thursday's road matchup against Academy of Art (15-9, 12-5 PacWest). The team's streak of four wins and four games of holding its opponents' to under 60 points ended with a 77-64 BU (17-9, 13-6 PacWest) loss in the evening contest.

Stephanie Lee followed a Tuesday Senior Night with an 18-point performance against ARTU on Thursday. The guard hit six shots, all coming from beyond the arc. Efficiency was key for Lee, who converted at a 75.0 percent clip from downtown.

Biola as a team shot 41.7 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from long range. Two other Eagles surpassed 10 points to help the Eagles nab 64 on the night, including Amiah Simmons and Laila Walker.

Unfortunately, the offensive effort was not enough to take down the Urban Knights. The hosting squad took advantage of big scoring opportunities in the second and fourth periods, tacking on over 20 points in each.

The Eagles got off to a hot start though, gathering a 17-10 lead through six minutes of the first quarter. An 8-0 run gave BU the edge with the help of a Simmons and-one to cap off the rally. ARTU responded to finish the quarter, tallying eight unanswered points themselves to end the first up, 18-17.

The momentum remained with the host squad in the second quarter, as they added 10 more to their overall lead. 10 turnovers plagued BU in the stanza.

Biola found its rhythm in the third, going 7-11 from the field to cut back on its deficit. 18 points came in for BU, as the team trailed by six entering the fourth.

The Eagles continued to push the envelope in the final 10 minutes of action, making a run early in the fourth. Lee and Autumn Hopson each nailed a three-pointer, helping BU take the lead with six minutes left in the contest.

The two teams traded points for the next two minutes. The Urban Knights were able to regain the advantage in the back-and-forth and found themselves up 65-62 with four minutes remaining. The last minutes only strengthened the host team's hold on the contest, leading to the 77-64 finish.

BU will look to bounce back with its final regular season contest on Saturday at Dominican at 1:00 pm.
