Eagles Fall in Overtime

The women's basketball team fell 72-63 to Concordia in overtime.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Women's Basketball team put forth an admirable effort against Concordia University Irvine, but fell 72-63 in overtime. 

CUI (6-4, 3-1 PacWest) led Biola (3-7, 3-1 PacWest) 17-15 after the first quarter. 

Biola came back strong in the second quarter where they outscored Concordia 25-11. CUI led by as much as eight points before BU started trimming down their lead. Eleni Cabrera nailed a three-pointer which brought the score down to 25-18. Biola then held Concordia silent in their next possession and went on to score again, courtesy of a Jaci Bolden basket (23-20).

The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 25-20 and the Biola Eagles efficiently held them to 25 points until BU topped them, 26-25. CUI would answer back with the next basket (28-26) but a good layup by Taylor Hall would level the score (28-28). 

Natasa Radovic supplied the basket that gave Biola the advantage (30-28) and the Eagles went on to create a decent lead for themselves, breaking away by as much as 12 points before the break. 

Biola remained ahead in the third quarter, but Concordia put themselves in a good position heading into the forth. CUI limited BU to nine points in the third while they scored 16 points which translated to a five-point differential (49-44) heading into the final frame.

The Eagles started off strong in the fourth but the Golden Eagles stayed diligent, successfully tying up the game with a little less than four minutes remaining (53-53). Biola and CUI were neck and neck the remainder of the quarter, tying the score four more times which led to Biola's first overtime game of the season.

Jordan Rabe scored the first basket of overtime, but CUI scored the next five which put them ahead, 66-61. Biola received another scoring opportunity from a Concordia foul on Aysia Johnson. Johnson sank in both free throws which would be Biola's last baskets of the game, 66-63.

Concordia extended their overtime-lead by as much as nine points before the game concluded, 72-63.

Rabe led her team in scoring with 17 points and picked up her tenth-consecutive block of the season. Rabe has had at least one block in every game thus far as a key player for the Eagles.

Walker had the second-most points  for BU with 14, followed by Johnson with 11 and Radovic with eight. 

Biola plays next on Saturday, December 17 at 1 p.m. against Dominican at the Conlan Center.
