Learning Experience

The women’s basketball team completed their exhibition contest against Division I CSU Bakersfield where they gained some valuable experience for their upcoming 2022-23 season.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.---The Biola Women's Basketball Team opened up their 2022-23 season with an exhibition contest against Division I Cal State Bakersfield.

CSU Bakersfield is a member of the Big West Conference who finished their 2021-22 season 5-20 overall against a schedule of premier DI opponents.

"Cal State Bakersfield played well and shot the ball really well," reflected head coach Alan Nakamura. "We had some good moments but need to work on sustaining our runs on both offense and defense. With the character we have in our program the players will do a great job of staying together and working together to get better every day."

Biola held their own against CSU Bakersfield in the first quarter. Laila Walker scored eight of the Eagles' 11 points with two three-pointers and a jumper. Freshman Jaci Bolden also sank in a three-pointer which accounted for BU's remaining points in the first frame. Bolden's three-point basket made the score 16-11 with the Roadrunners' leading.

After Bolden's basket, came two three-pointers from CSUB which widened the home team's lead to 11 points (22-11).

The second quarter is when CSU Bakersfield broke away from Biola by maintaining a healthy 10-point lead which would grow to as much as 42 points by the end of the exhibition game.

Laila Walker led her team in scoring with 17 points, followed by Jordan Rabe with nine, Jaci Bolden with eight and Taylor Hall with six points.

On the defensive end, Aysia Johnson led the Eagles with four steals and Jessa Thurman led in rebounds with six (one was offensive).

Biola has another exhibition contest lined up on their schedule against DI University of San Diego on Monday, November 7 at 5 p.m. at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
