Strong Showing

The women’s basketball team had another strong showing against Alaska Anchorage at the Alaska Airlines Center.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--- The Biola Women's Basketball team had another strong showing against the ninth-best team in the nation, Alaska Anchorage, at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Biola fell again to nationally-ranked Alaska Anchorage with a 86-79 loss, but UAA had to once again work for their win as BU came in with some fight. The lead changed 16 times and was tied eight in the close matchup.

The Eagles outscored the Seawolves 20-18 in the first quarter. A balanced team effort once again benefited Biola, giving them the early lead. Madi Chang and Laila Walker led their team with five points each. Behind them was Maya Whiteside (4 points) and Jordan Rabe, Jessa Thurman, and Aysia Johnson who each contributed a basket.

The Seawolves came back with a stronger second quarter, edging Biola out 40-36 heading into the break. 

The third was highly competitive as the score was tied up four times. Biola slightly closed up the gap they were chasing, 57-55. 

The fourth quarter ended up favorable to the Seawolves as they held the lead for the remainder of the game. Biola got close, within a one-point's reach, but Alaska Anchorage buckled down and took care of business in their eventual 86-79 win. 

Walker led the Eagles in scoring tonight with 20 points, followed by Rabe with 15, Chang with 11 and Johnson with nine.

The Eagles are now 0-6 overall against a competitive group of non-conference opponents while Alaska Anchorage improved 5-0 overall. Biola opens up conference play on Thursday, Dec. 1 against Fresno Pacific at the Special Events Center.
