Celebrating Together

The Eagles honored their two seniors on Thursday night, following a 3-1 win over Point Loma.

LA MIRADA --- The party was on inside Chase Gymnasium on Thursday night. The festivities began with an impressive showing from the Biola Eagles (16-10, 13-6 PacWest), as they defeated Point Loma (19-8, 14-5 PacWest) in four sets. Following the victory, the team joined with their families and friends to honor its seniors Brie Nishimura and Madison Beebe.

The challenge was set before the Eagles on the court, as they took on the Sea Lions in hopes of avenging their loss to PLNU from earlier this season. The regional rankings also mirrored the strength of the Sea Lions, naming them ninth in the west region in the final week of action.

BU stepped up to its rival, dealing the first blow in the opening set. Anna Aubele did not hold back punches, tallying nine kills in the first game. As a team, Biola nabbed 16 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, finishing with a 25-18 advantage.

Errors plagued the second set for the Eagles. The only dropped set by the host squad saw 10 attack errors and a string of four-straight errors helping PLNU gain all the momentum they needed for a 25-19 second set win.

Biola took its time in the third set, as the two teams hung within three points of each other for most of the set. BU broke it open at 20-20, logging four-straight points to create separation. Beebe sparked the rally and ended it with back-to-back blocks for points 21 and 22 and a kill to give BU number 25 in the set.

Nothing would stop the Eagles with a 2-1 lead. The team built a 13-5 advantage in the fourth and never looked back. 15 kills aided BU's effort in a 25-18 final set and a 3-1 victory over PLNU.

Freshman Bri Bellfi was flying around the back row, keeping the ball in play consistently throughout the match. The BU libero collected 26 digs for a career-best mark.

Aubele and Beebe led the attack with a combined 30 kills and a .225 hitting percentage. Abby Brewster orchestrated the offense with 37 assists.

After the contest, Biola gathered for their senior night ceremony, honoring Nishimura and Beebe.

"Brie has been a phenomenal teammate with a great heart," said head coach Aaron Seltzer. "She is an incredible person and she has made an impact on her teammates more than she knows."

"The type of leadership Madison has is the most constant, positive and encouraging. Inside she is all competitive. She has been a fantastic worker and she grinds but she also loves Jesus and it shows," commented Seltzer.

BU volleyball will cap off its season on Saturday, taking on Concordia on the road at 1:00 pm.
