Fantastic Finish

The Eagles ended Saturday’s match with back-to-back set wins, capping off their 2022 campaign with a victory.

IRVINE, Calif. --- A short road trip over to Irvine was the finishing mark on the 2022 campaign for the BU volleyball team. BU battled with the Concordia Golden Eagles (17-10, 14-6 PacWest) and came out victorious in a five set thriller.

The early going was back and forth with CUI leading at 2-1 through three sets.

The deficit did not faze Biola, as they delivered while under duress. With the lead in sets, CUI jumped out ahead in the beginning of the set. A 9-4 deficit faced the Biola Eagles at the brink of a defeat.

Enter Abigail Copeland. BU's middle blocker tallied three-straight points and four total amidst a 7-0 run for Biola. Following the big run, Biola never looked back on the way to a huge 25-15 victory, forcing a fifth set. The end of the fourth was another seven point rally for BU with Dominique Kirton stepping up with four kills in the stretch.

The race to 15 points was underway with the match knotted at two sets apiece.

Biola made the first move with back-to-back kills from Anna Aubele and another kill from Madison Beebe to create a 5-2 lead for BU. CUI chipped away but a four-point streak for BU left just two points remaining for the Eagles to seal the victory.

Ultimately, Beebe sealed the win with a sneaky kill off the fingertips. The graceful hit fell in the middle of the CUI defense, giving BU a 15-10 win in the fifth.

Beebe paired 13 kills with 13 digs for a double-double, while averaging an efficient .220 hitting percentage.

Copeland added 12.5 points on the day with six kills and a staggering eight total blocks. The senior dictated the play at the net with five solo blocks and three block assists.

Three Eagles reached double figures in kills, including Beebe (13), Kirton (14) and Aubele (15).

The regular season came to a close with the BU volleyball team securing a 17-10 overall record and a 14-6 mark in the PacWest. The Biola squad will graduate two seniors in Beebe and Brie Nishimura.
