LA MIRADA --- The 2022-23 campaign for the BU men's basketball team will see 10 newcomers. A good mix of freshman and sophomores litter the list of new student-athletes, as they join a culture of hard work, positive attitude and winning.

"I really like this group, their spirit and their work ethic," commented head coach Dr. Dave Holmquist. 

The team will be looking for a quick impact from this incoming class, as the Eagles saw nine players graduate or transfer from last year's roster. Four of those who graduated were crucial starters, vacating over 100 minutes per game.

The Eagles are coming off a season with 21 wins and a victory in the opening round of the PacWest Tournament. 

The incoming class includes four transfers: Daniel Esparza from Cal Poly, Erik Howlin from Santiago Canyon, Hunter Ruck from Rancho Solano, and Casey Cappo from Diablo Valley. The freshmen joining the squad are Jonah Alvarez from Capital Christian High, Nathan Medina from Valley Christian High, Jaden Penberthy from Hart High, Garrison Sherman from Scottsdale Christian Academy, Christian Estrada from St. John Bosco High, and Tyus Parrish-Tillman from Clovis West.

"They have a desire to improve as a group," added Holmquist. "We have six freshmen and four sophomore transfers that comprise the 10 new players and it has been a nice group to work with."

The first official game on the schedule for BU is this Friday at 3:00 pm. 

"It has been an enjoyable fall. We have been playing hard and improving through practice and our scrimmages," said Holmquist.

With countable action coming, the Eagles will look to settle in and find their groove, before PacWest play begins on December 1 against Fresno Pacific.

On Friday, Biola will hit the road for a contest against Cal State LA at 3:00 pm. The team's first bout inside Chase Gymnasium will be Monday, November 14 at 7:00 pm when they face off against Antelope Valley.
