Biola Bounce Back

The women’s volleyball team bounced back from Wednesday with a three-set sweep against Dominican at the Conlan Center.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--- The Biola University women's volleyball team bounced back from their loss against Holy Names on Wednesday with a dominant three-set 25-23, 25-18, 25-13 win against Dominican on Thursday night.

The first set was the closest of the night. The Eagles and Penguins went back-and-forth for points, but BU eventually won by a close margin of 25-23. Biola had 13 kills in their first set win, and Anna Aubele led her team with six kills.

The second set was Biola's most dominant, where the Eagles posted a 406 hitting percentage. BU totaled 18 kills, Emily Smith and Aubele led their team with five kills each followed by Kendall Vandertuig with three, Abigail Copeland and Abby Brewster with two and Gracie Guy who had one.

Aubele also had two service aces in the second set.

In the third set, Biola won by their greatest margin of 25-13. BU went on a six-point run toward the end of the set. Brewster was on the service line for five points which included one ace. Dominican also posted 10 errors in the final set that Biola was able to take advantage of.

Biola out-hit Dominican 41-27. Aubele was the Eagles overall kill leader, accumulating 11 kills. Following Aubele was Vandertuig with 11 and Smith with seven. 

The Eagles improved 10-8 overall and 7-4 in the PacWest Conference while Dominican fell 0-16 overall and 0-9 in the PacWest. BU is currently sixth in the conference standings behind first place Chaminade, second Fresno Pacific, third Point Loma, fourth Azusa Pacific, and fifth Concordia.

Biola plays next on Saturday, October 8 at 7 p.m. against Academy of Art at the Walter Gleason Gym.
