Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Billi Derleth, Assistant Sports Information Director

Battle of the Defenses

The women’s soccer team battled in a 1-0 loss against Hawai’i Pacific.

LA MIRADA---The Biola Women's Soccer Team played hard, but the odds fell in Hawai'i Pacific's favor. The Sharks prevailed in the second half which resulted in their 1-0 win over the Eagles.

"Our ladies persevered through the challenge that came with missing some of our personnel," explained head coach Erin Brunelle. "Mason, Rachel, and Leah stepped into unfamiliar positions and held their own. Madi Reeves did a wonderful job of matching HPU's pace up top and she really anchored the backline today. Savanna had a huge save in the opening minutes that allowed us to settle in and not have to chase the game. We created plenty of opportunities to score, but couldn't capitalize on anything to turn the tide of the game. Credit to Hawai'i Pacific for converting their goal and defending well to keep us off of the board."

The Sharks fired away, taking 10 shots on goal to Biola's four. Savanna Tavares made nine saves to keep her team in the match.

The Eagles hustled to create an opportunity, but nothing would fall their way.

Rachel Melvin and  Madi Reeves both played 90 minutes of action, holding down Biola's defensive wall.

Eight seniors experienced their last match at Al Barbour Field including: Frances Andrade, Christine Maranville, Mason Stansberry, Rachel Melvin, Aubrey Fergeson, Katelyn Penner, Catrina Gonzalez, and Sarah Freed.

Biola plays their last game on Saturday, November 5 at 11 a.m. against Holy Names at Chabot College Soccer Field.

Brunelle concluded, "We continue to strive together to use the talents God has given us to the best of our ability. We have one more game together and will look to finish the season well."
