Bounce Back

The Eagles bounced back on a back-to-back, taking down Hawaii Pacific on Thursday night.

HONOLULU, Hawaii --- A tough day one in Hawaii did not deter the Eagles, who returned to form and dominated on the road. Eight kills from Madison Beebe opened things up, setting the tone for a Biola (14-9, 11-5 PacWest) sweep over Hawaii Pacific (2-18, 2-12 PacWest).

The BU offense got rolling on Thursday night and it did not take long for the team to find its rhythm. The first surge came at a 7-7 tie in the first set. Beebe tacked on three kills in a seven-point rally for BU, cracking the set wide open.

The 7-0 run was not even the longest of the set for Biola, as the team capped it off with eight-straight. Abby Brewster took control of the serve and never gave it up, before the 25-11 finish.

Beebe went on to pace the squad with 13 kills in the three-set match. The righty took 25 swings and came through with a .520 hitting percentage.

The match swung more into balance, as it transitioned to set number two. The two teams were never separated by more than four points and small runs dictated the pace. After a string of good plays from one side, the other team would respond in short order.

The difference in the set came in the final moments. The Sharks posted three-consecutive points to knot the set at 22 points each. A kill from Beebe broke the streak and the Eagles fired away. Beebe and Abigail Copeland tag-teamed for a block, before Beebe moved BU to set-point with another kill assisted by Brewster. Brewster secured the set for BU at 25-22 with a perfect ace.

Brewster was fantastic on Thursday, averaging over 10 assists per set, while making an impact at the net with three block assists. The BU setter helped the Eagles to 43 kills in three sets and a team hitting percentage of .411.

The BU attack continued to find success in the final set. The team connected on a match-high 16 kills without committing a single attack error. The .615 hitting percentage encouraged the third set rout at 25-14.

Emily Smith put together a standout performance, especially in the third and final set. The senior piled on seven kills in the third set alone, including four in a five-point stretch. On Thursday, Smith totaled 12 kills and a solo block.

The Eagles will now head over to the Big Island to take on Hawaii Hilo on Saturday at 10:00 pm PST.
