Eagles' Takedown

The women's soccer team took down Chaminade 1-0 at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola University Women's Soccer Team took down the PacWest Conference's current runner up, Chaminade, at Al Barbour Field on Monday night.

The Silverswords fall 7-4-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the PacWest, while the Eagles improve 4-10-1 and 3-5 in the league standings.

"We are so grateful for the win tonight," stated head coach Erin Brunelle. "Our ladies have been battling hard all season long and their continued trust and belief in each other resulted in a tight victory. Chaminade is a well-coached, organized side that is difficult to break down. We knew it was going to take combination sequences between multiple players to break them down and we were building momentum through the first half."

CUH outshot BU 8-2 in the first frame, but good defense prevented the Silverswords from scoring.

Savanna Tavares had three saves in the first half and continued to make two more in the second. Tavares picked up her first shutout of her collegiate career.

After the halftime break, Biola broke the stalemate with a goal by the Eagles leading scorer Peyton Nelson who sunk in her fourth goal of the season.

"Abby Chavez capitalized on her strength of taking players on in the flank and served a beautiful ball into the box," elaborated Brunelle. "Sarah Melvin used great determination to keep the ball alive in the box and Peyton Nelson was composed for the finish. Our midfield put in a huge effort to cover ground from box to box. It was a full team win and all glory goes to God for allowing us to have this victory."

Biola's last home game is Monday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. against Hawai'i Pacific.
