Seniors Celebrate

The women’s soccer team celebrated senior day against Hawai’i Hilo at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Women's Soccer Team celebrated senior day against the United Soccer Coaches Associations' No. 9 Hawai'i Hilo.

Biola honored eight seniors including: Frances Andrade, Christine Maranville, Mason Stansberry, Rachel Melvin, Aubrey Fergeson, Katelyn Penner, Catrina Gonzalez, and Sarah Freed prior to the match.

The Vulcans were quick in their attack, scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes. The Eagles would hold the Vulcans at 3-0, which would end up being the final score.

UH Hilo outshot Biola 9-3 in the first half, but in the second the Eagles held them to just three shots.

"Hilo is a fantastic side and took advantage of our early mistakes in the defensive third," said head coach Erin Brunelle. "As the game went on, defensively our front six did a great job of making the play predictable for our backline. We dug a hole early and had a tough time finding the back of the net, but the effort the ladies continue to put in until the final whistle is so encouraging. They continue to play with grit and determination regardless of the outcome."

Rachel Melvin, Marije Rechin, Madi Reeves, and Jess Hase all saw 90 minutes of action, making up the Eagles defensive wall

"Jess Hase had a remarkable game and stepped in to win challenge after challenge," Brunelle elaborated.

BU's Goalkeeper, Savana Tavares, recorded six saves against the highly offensive Vulcans.
