Game Recap: Men's Water Polo | | Ethan McGarvey, Sports Information Director

First Round of Seniors

The Biola men’s water polo squad celebrated its first graduating seniors in program history.

LA MIRADA --- The Eagles put up a fight on Friday afternoon, taking on the seventh-ranked UC Davis Aggies (12-6, 5-0 WWPA) at the Splash Regional Aquatics Center. The BU squad (10-15, 1-6 WWPA) honored its three seniors prior to the opening sprint, featuring Jonas Huckabay, Matthew Vinson, and Kenny Wulf.

The second-year program held its first Senior Day ceremony with its final lone home contest of 2022.

The following contest was a challenge against the nationally ranked Aggies. UC Davis pushed ahead early and held on for a 16-8 final in favor of the visitors.

The third quarter saw the best action for the Eagles. Quick transitions down the pool sparked a big change in favor of the home team.

A three-goal swing started with a fastbreak by Caleb Hernandez, who cashed in on a one-on-one faceoff with the UC Davis keeper. The momentum continued with a score from Nolan Rapp. The righty outswam the defense and found the back of the net off a lead pass from Wulf, cutting the deficit to 10-5.

Wulf brought the Eagles within four at the 2:28 mark in the third period. Rapp set up the play by drawing a UCD exclusion for a Biola powerplay. Gavin Oliver dished the ball over to Wulf on the wing, who zipped the ball in for a goal.

A four-goal difference was as close as the Eagles would get in the second half, as Luke Franklin tacked on the final goal for a 16-8 finish.

BU offered eight different goal scorers on their eight goals on Friday. The team also showed great ball distribution with seven assists on those eight scores.

The Eagles will be back in the pool for another WWPA matchup on Wednesday, October 26 at Concordia at 1:30 pm.
