The women’s volleyball team swept Fresno Pacific in the Chase Gymnasium.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola University Volleyball Team received a big 25-17, 25-18, 25-21 win this afternoon over Fresno Pacific.

Fresno Pacific fell to 9-3 in the PacWest, while Biola improved to 9-4.

"I am super proud of them and the effort and energy they brought," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "What Fresno does really well, we typically do not. Today, though, we played really well at it and took care of things tactically."

Biola was on fire with aces tonight, putting down 11 to Fresno Pacific's four. Biola also outperformed the Sunbirds in the blocks category, receiving eight to FPU's four.

Abby Brewster got the first set started with a service ace and the Eagles proceeded to lead the remainder of the set. Anna Aubele led the kill category in the first frame with four kills.

The second set started close where both teams traded points. Biola broke away when the score got to 6-4 (Biola up) and Bethany Bellfi went on a five-point service run that included one ace.

The Sunbirds would then go on to make five errors in their eventual 25-18 loss.

The final set was the closest of the night. Fresno Pacific got ahead with the first two points and Biola got back in it with a three-point run by Madison Beebe that included two service aces (4-2).

FPU and BU would continue to trade points, but Biola would flip the switch after a service ace by Aubele (7-5) and would lead the remainder of the set.

"We had a good week of practice and came in super focused. That's kind of been our season, we've been really good at times and really bad at times," said Seltzer. "Tonight we got a fantastic combined defensive effort, which was nice."

Aubele was the kill leader on the court, recording 10. Behind her was Emily Smith with seven and Beebe with six.

Bethany Bellfi led her team with three service aces. Following Bethany Bellfi was Brewster and Beebe with two each.

Abigail Copeland had the team-high of five blocks (four solo and one assist), trailing her was Brewster with three blocks (two solo and one assist) and then Gracie Guy with one solo block.

Biola competes next on Tuesday, October 18 at 6 p.m. against rival Azusa Pacific in the Felix Event Center.
