Come Back

The volleyball team came back from behind to beat Azusa Pacific 3-2.

AZUSA, Calif.--- The Biola Women's Volleyball Team came back from behind to top Azusa Pacific 20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-11 at the Felix Event Center.

The volleyball team maxed out on Cornerstone Cup points this year, defeating Azusa Pacific in both encounters. Biola Athletics now leads Azusa Pacific Athletics 30-0 in the annual competition.

The Eagles were down two sets and with the pressure on, won the do-or-die third.

"To go from playing so poorly to so well in third, fourth, and fifth sets showed such resilience on the road," stated head coach Aaron Seltzer. "APU gave us a bit of an opening in set three and we took full advantage. I'm so proud of our three freshmen: Beth, Brianna, and Gracie who played so well in a big match tonight.  We also had some great leadership from Madison and Brewster. Copeland also had one of her all around best matches of the year."

Biola got ahead in the third set with a 2-0 lead, courtesy of kills from Anna Aubele and Abigail Copeland. The Cougars and Eagles would trade points until BU got behind by three points (14-11).

The Eagles buckled down and got back in the fold, once again going back and forth with APU for the advantage.

Biola continued pressing on and eventually set themselves apart with a four-point run which led to their 25-20 victory.

The Eagles experienced some deja vu in their 25-21 fourth-set victory where they once again won the first two points and went back-and-forth with their opponent until the final four points where they differentiated themselves with a four-point run.

The fifth set may have been the Eagles' most dominant win where Biola led the entire frame. A kill by Gracie Guy concluded the match with the 15-11 final score.

Madison Beebe was the Eagles kill leader, recording 16 in the night. Behind her was Aubele with 15 and Dominique Kirton with 13 kills.

Aubele led the block category tonight with six, followed by Copeland (five) and Guy (four).

Abby Brewster led the floor with 51 assists.

Biola will hit the road on their Hawai'i road trip. The Eagles will start with Chaminade on Wednesday, October 26 at 10 p.m. BU will then face Hawai'i Pacific and close the trip with Hawai'i Hilo.
