LA MIRADA --- Biola Women's Basketball (10-6, 6-3 PacWest) hung tough with Academy of Art (10-6, 7-2 PacWest) at home, but the Eagles were unable to come out with a win Thursday evening as they were handed a 83-61 loss at Chase Gymnasium.Â
BU battled throughout the night against No.2 in the PacWest Academy of Art, as the opposing team played tenacious on both sides of the court. ART U caused the Eagles to turn over the ball 28 times leading to the Urban Knights' big win.
The first half the Eagles were back-to-back with their competitor. After overcoming a hump in the end of the first quarter BU erased a 10-point second quarter deficit to close the gap only being down by four. A free throw made by Aysia Johson into halftime made it 40-36.
The Eagle offense was led by both Amiah Simmons and Natasa Radovic, who scored 13 points each for Biola. Simmons continued to add to her season total with two three pointers, two assists and one steal. Radovic was 1-for-2 with three pointers and had three assists and one steal.Â
Going into the second half Biola couldn't quite put it together on offense or defense the remainder of the game as they fell behind 19 points in the middle of the third quarter.Â
The Eagles kept doing their best to chip away to shorten their opponent's lead, but Art U would close out the third up 66-48.Â
After Head Coach Alan Nakamura made a few changes in the lineup, Stephanie Lee started the fourth quarter with a three point make.Â
The Urban Knights didn't let Biola stop them after each time they tried to chip away, the opposing team went on a pair of 5-0 runs in the fourth quarter. ART U showed grit throughout the game, which led them to the 22-point victory. The -22 was the largest differential in a loss for Biola this season.
The Eagles didn't shoot too poorly in this one, which allowed them to keep it to just the 22 points despite the highest turnover number in a single game since back in 2016. Tonight's 28 is Biola's fourth time having 20 or more turnovers in a game this season.Â
Biola Women's Basketball looks forward to the opportunity to bounce back from tonight's hard loss with three-straight home matches. BU will compete against Chaminade on Friday, January 28 at 5 p.m. at Chase Gymnasium. For live stats links and updates check athletics.biola.edu.
