Offense Revitalized

A 2-0 victory displayed the impressive potential for the Biola attack, as the Eagles defeated Academy of Art.

LA MIRADA --- For the first time in three matches, Biola (3-4-1, 1-0 PW) hit the scoreboard and did so in a burst. Two first half goals led the hosting Eagles to a 2-0 triumph in their PacWest-opener against Academy of Art (1-2-2, 0-1 PW).

BU consistently won the battle for the ball in the midfield and made sure to turn that into offensive opportunities. Through the first half, Biola logged 11 shots and three corners to go along with the team's two tallies.

The opening score of the contest came from true freshman Jazmin Montalvo. The forward notched her first career goal on a run and volley that snuck its way past the ARTU keeper.

Frances Andrade delivered the pass to help give BU the 1-0 advantage. The senior played a great ball into the box, directly towards the keeper and the streaking Montalvo came out of nowhere to redirect the ball for the score.

As the final seconds of the first half began to wane, Biola made one more run at the goal. Katelyn Penner held the ball just outside of the box and earned a free kick for the Eagles after being fouled by the Urban Knights. Ella Hiveley stepped up for the set piece and offered a strike to the upper 90 for a beautiful shot and score.

The junior forward picked up her first career goal, doubling Biola's lead right before the halftime break. Hiveley marked the sixth goal-scorer of  the six total goals for the Eagles this season.

The defense did its job in the win, maintaining its fourth clean sheet in 2021. Anna Boyer recorded the win and the shutout as BU's keeper on Thursday, recording a pair of saves.

On the day, Biola doubled its previous season-high with 20 shots. Eight different Eagles launched multiple shots in the afternoon contest with nine total attempts landing on-target.

On defense, Jess Hase returned to the pitch for BU, seeing her first action since the season-opener against Stanislaus State.

Biola will return to action next Wednesday in a road matchup at Point Loma at 1:00 pm.
