BU, CUI Draw

The pair of Eagles squads played 110 minutes of soccer and finished the day knotted at 0 for a draw.

LA MIRADA --- Biola (2-3-1) and Concordia (1-2-2) battled at Al Barbour Field on Saturday afternoon. Tied up at full-time, the two teams continued to compete through two overtime periods for ultimately a 0-0 draw.

The two PacWest teams faced off for the first time this season in the weekend contest. While the match result counted towards each team's overall record, the match did not count for their conference records.

Defense dominated the match from the opening kickoff on Saturday with neither team finding success around the goal. The two teams combined for eight shots, as the visiting Eagles led the way, 6-2, in the first half.

Following the initial 45 minutes of action, Concordia kept firing off shots after the halftime break. The visitors tacked on 12 shot attempts compared to BU's four. Anna Boyer did her job, collecting two saves through the second 45 minutes of the match.

One of the best opportunities for the Eagles came from Christine Maranville. The Temecula, California native sprinted into the box and volleyed the ball narrowly over the crossbar for a shot barely off-target.

As the match transitioned into overtime, BU's defense continued to do its job. Headlined by a pair of freshmen, Chloe Laurin and Jordyn Provience, the Biola backline thwarted seven shots and seven corners from Concordia through 20 total minutes of overtime.

In goal, Boyer collected her third clean sheet of the young 2021 season. On the day, the sophomore notched six saves, increasing her season total to 32.

A 0-0 tie with CUI moved Biola's record on the year to 2-3-1. The BU Eagles will look to return to the winning column with a road match on Monday against Cal Poly Pomona at 6:00 pm.
