LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball (6-4, 2-0) earned the victory on Saturday afternoon, topping Concordia 3-1 (25-17, 25-27, 25-19, 25-16) at Chase Gymnasium. Biola improves to a perfect 2-0 in PacWest Play as Concordia (6-3, 1-1) drops to 1-1.
Biola earns its first home victory of the season as multiple Eagles played big roles in the four set victory on Saturday afternoon. "We played better today overall, we looked better and played confident," commented Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "We clsoed out games pretty well today."
The Eagles played in front of a limited group of home fans as they were sure to protect their home court. "We're playing at home, we have to defend our home," said Seltzer, and defend their home they did!
Seltzer had contributions from players all over the court and off the bench during the four set victory. "Sami, Rae and Madi were pretty good all the way around," said Seltzer as the trio powered BU to the win.Â
Raegan Tjepkema and Madison Beebe recorded 14 kills each, hitting .367 and .306 respectively. Tjepkema added three aces from behind the line while chipping in with three blocks at the net and six digs. Beebe recorded an ace of her own with a block and six digs.Â
Defense was on full display today for Seltzer's Eagles. Sami Hover and Abby Brewster led Biola with 15 digs a piece while the front row accounted for 18 blocks led by Dani Bryant with five and Vanessa Garcia with four.
Garcia continues to power the offense as the graduate student recorded 35 assists upping her season total to 286 assists. "She continues to make really good decisions on the court," commented Seltzer as Garcia distributed the ball to her hitters and recorded four kills of her own.Â
The duo of Sami Hover and Abby Brewster combined for 30 digs in the back row as each recorded 15. Hover now sits at 1,987 career digs and will likely surpass the 2,000 mark in Biola's next contest.
Now, Biola must prepare for a tough week as the Eagles head to Point Loma on Wednesday and host Azusa Pacific on Friday, October 1. "It's a big week for us," said Seltzer, as Biola will look to add some fine-tuning and be a bit more disciplined on the court this upcoming week.Â
