The Eagles opened up PacWest play with a 3-0 win over Holy Names.

OAKLAND, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball improved to 5-4, 1-1 on the season with a dominant 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 sweep of Holy Names (3-6, 0-1) at Tobin Gymnasium on Friday night.

The Eagles relied on a strong defensive effort from the back row including libero Sami Hover who led the team with 17 digs. Tonight's efforts pushed Hover to 1,972 career digs, just 28 digs away from the 2,000 career dig mark, a career milestone she could accomplish in Biola's next match at home against Concordia.

"I thought defensively we did a pretty good job," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "They're a team that moves the ball around real well and I thought our back-row did a good job with that.

The Eagles limited the Hawks to a .111 hitting percentage on Friday, including a 61-47 edge in digs.

Madison Beebe logged her eighth double-digit kill game while securing her fourth double-double of the season as the redshirt sophomore led the team with 12 kills and added 11 digs from the back row.

Since her freshman season Beebe has seen tremendous growth and the results speak for themselves. "When I switched my mindset to giving all the glory to God instead of playing for myself, I gained more confidence & have been very successful thanks to Him," commented Beebe.

Dominique Kirton continued to play a big role for Seltzer as she chipped in with eight kills and nine digs.

Seltzer was pleased with what he saw from his veteran setter Vanessa Garcia at the net and on defense. The graduate student tallied 29 assists and 9 digs in the three-set victory. "Vanessa did a good job on the offensive side," said Seltzer. "She was quick and aggressive and had some really  good plays for our team."

Biola will take some time off as Saturday's contest against Dominican was postponed. Seltzer and his team will take the extra days to get in some additional prep work as they get ready for their home opener next Saturday against Concordia (5-2, 0-0).

With recent changes, capacity at each on-campus game is now limited. Only spectators on the official admissions list will be permitted into each event. Masks will be required for indoor sports regardless of vaccination status.
