Gallegos Shines in Finale

Ryan Gallegos connects on four home runs on Saturday, as the Eagles split the day with No. 6 NNU.

NAMPA, Idaho --- The BU baseball team completed Saturday's road doubleheader against the sixth-ranked Nighthawks with a split mirroring Friday's action. Ryan Gallegos starred in the afternoon competitions, more than doubling his season total with four home runs on the day.

Game two began similarly to the first game of the day but Northwest Nazarene battled back for a 9-7 win to split the doubleheader.

Gallegos stayed hot at the plate with an opening inning home run, scoring two runs for the visiting Eagles. Connor Kostecka followed with a double and touched home off a Rhett Stein single to give BU an early 3-0 lead.

The Nighthawks would not back down, posting a solo run in the first and second innings, before a third inning swell. Patience at the plate earned the host squad four runners by way of hit-by-pitch and walks, helping NNU pile on seven runs in the frame.

Tyler Mead stepped in and bailed the Eagles out of the tough inning. The righty hurler recorded the final two outs of the third and completed 3.2 scoreless frames in the contest.

Nine runs between the first and third frames from NNU put the pressure on BU halfway through the seven-inning contest.

Gallegos would not go quietly though, swinging hard on a 2-2 count in the sixth inning and sending the ball over the fence once again. The long ball marked the second-straight game with a pair of homers for the designated hitter.

With a 9-4 deficit in the final inning, the Eagles needed a big rally to overcome the Nighthawks. BU put two runners on base with a single and a walk, bringing up RobertAnthony Cruz with two outs. The first baseman tacked on his 11th homer of the season, adding three runs for BU and shrinking the NNU lead to 9-7.

Max Holtzclaw of NNU would seal the win for the host team with a strikeout, finishing off the Saturday split.
