Mason Leads BU’s All-PacWest Team

The Eagles land nine individuals and one relay team to the All-PacWest team.

IRVINE, Calif. --- The PacWest Conference released its Track & Field honors on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles land nine individuals and one relay team to the All-PacWest team, which consists of the top-3 finishers at each event from the PacWest Championships.

Distance runners represented Biola well at the PacWest Championships as Mackenna Mason and Angel Escobar each won a conference title in the 10,000 meter. Brady DeHaven joined Escobar on the men's podium with a second place finish to give back-to-back finishes in the event.

Mason also finished third in the 5,000 meter to become BU's only athlete with multiple podium finishes at the 2021 PacWest Championships. 

Grace Catena performed well in the steeplechase, finishing in second place with a time of 1:28.41.

Chase Williams and Nathan Estrada each secured second place finishes in the 100 meter and 400 meter with times of 10.64 and 1:55.74 respectively. 

The men's 4x400 relay team of Jahquez Durham, Trevor Hormel, Noah Strenn and Mathias Davis finished in third place with a time of 3:20.10. 

Kristin Belle finished second in the heptathlon, scoring 4,030 points. 

In the field, Troy Yarter secured second place in the javelin with a marl of 53.19m while Anna Maumalanga finished in third place in the discus with a mark of 45.52m.

Biola has one last chance to compete before the NCAA Championships, as APU will host the Last Chance Multi and the Last Chance Twilight on May 14 & 15. The 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 27-29 in Allendale, Mich., at Grand Valley State University.
