FRESNO, Calif. --- After day one of the PacWest Track & Field Championships BU's women's team sits in second place while the men's team sits in third place. 

The women scored 37 points on the day behind APU, while the men tallied 42 points as both teams look to increase their scoring on Saturday. 

Biola started the day off with a fourth place finish in the women's hammer throw from Jayme Budwig. Budwing scored the Eagles 5 points with a mark of 45.67m while teammate Anna Maumalanga finished in seventh with a mark of 41.66m, scoring two more points for BU. 

Troy Yarter secured BU's first podium of the meet, taking second place in the javelin with a mark of 53.19m. Yarter's second place finish earned the men's team eight points. 

Kiersten Huitt was BU's lone scorer in the women's long jump. Huitt finished in eighth place with a mark of 5.58m scoring one point for her team. On the men's side of the event, Aaron Willard finished in sixth place with a mark of 6.66m earning three points.

The Eagles performed incredibly well in the steeplechase. Grace Catena came in second with a time of 11:28.41, scoring BU eight points while Meagan Neumann added five more points with a fourth place finish and time of 11:38.99. Britta Holmberg rounded out the scoring in the event with a time of 12:06.59, good enough for an eighth place finish and one point. 

The success in the steeplechase continued for BU as Charlie Bailey finished in fourth place on the men's side of the event. Bailey ran a 10:54.20 while securing five points for his team.

In the final event of the day, the 10,000, Mackenna Mason finished in first place with a time of 38:08.31, securing ten points for BU. Jax Heckers just missed the podium and finished fourth with a time of 39:17.45, scoring five more points for BU.

On the men's side of the event, Biola scored 26 total points in the final race of the day. Angel Escobar and Brady DeHaven took first and second place respectively, scoring a total of 18 points BU. Jared Donnel, Ryan Sorensen and Jerry Baltzer combined to score another eight points and push the Eagles into third place as a team after day one of competition. 

Escobar's time of 31:10.17 set a new PacWest Track & Field Championships meet record for the first time since 2017.

Kristin Belle is competing in the heptathlon for BU, after day one she sits in second place with 2,533 points behind APU's Alyssa Henry with 2,902 points. 

With plenty of prelims action taking place on Friday, Biola will send 16 athletes to the final heats on Saturday.

In the 1500, Grace Catena, Hannah Champness and Siena Stacy all will move onto the final heat. Biola advances three athletes to the finals to match APU and ART U.

Rebeka Preston and Kiersten Huitt finished in seventh and ninth place respectively in the 100 hurdles. Huitt and Preston will compete side by side in the final heat on Saturday as they will be racing in lanes one and two. 

Mathias Davis will advance to the finals in both the 400 and 200. He will be joined by Chase Williams in the 200 finals. 

Chase Williams continues to stand out for Biola. The freshman set a new personal best in the 100 on Friday with a time of 10.70. The mark was the best overall time from prelims and won Williams the second heat. Jahquez Durham and Worthy Gutierrez will compete alongside Williams in the 100 finals on Saturday. 

BU will send three to the women's 800 finals in Shelby Rogers, Kenzie Elliott and Hannah Champness. 

Sophia Morris will move onto the 400 hurdles finals for Biola after finishing ninth with a time of 1:06.99 on Friday. 

Biola is back in action on Saturday as they return for day two of the PacWest Track & Field Championships.
