BU Continues to Improve

Multiple Eagles finish in top-three as BU competes at APU Invite

April 03, 2021

AZUSA, Calif. --- Biola Track & Field competed at the APU Invite at the Cougar Athletic Complex on Saturday. The Eagles suffered an early loss on the men's side as Noah Strenn went down with an injury during one of his javelin attempts, eliminating him from competition for the remainder of the meet. "It was a tough blow to our team. He's our captain and a team leader," said Troy Yarter who competed alongside Strenn in the javelin.

Joshua Jackson and Aaron Jackson took second and fourth place in the men's triple jump. Josh jumped 13.93m (45'8.5") while Aaron jumped 13.70m (44'11.5") giving the Eagles two top-5 finishes in the event.

Anna Maumalanga finished third in the shot put with a final mark of 11.43m (37' 6") while Jayme Budwig also gave Biola a third-place finish in the women's hammer throw, with a 43.32m (142' 1") mark. Budwig was the lone Eagle competing in the event.

Although multi-event athlete Rebeka Preston did not podium in the javelin, she set a competitive mark with 33.83m (111' 0") nearly one meter off her collegiate best. Preston also added a fourth-place finish in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of :14.79.

In the 100m hurdles, Kiersten Huitt was neck-and-neck with Jordan Hammond of Azusa Pacific and Devyani Biswal of Ottawa Lions TFC nearly the entire race. Huitt would finish in third with a time of :14.53. Justin Conklin continued the Eagles' success in the 110m hurdles as he finished third, clocking in at :15.29.

In the long jump Hannah Hubbard and Aaron Jackson competed well, jumping 5.61m (18'5") and 6.45m (21'2") finishing fourth and fifth on the women's and men's side, respectively.

In the men's 400m race, Mathias Davis was late to his race as there was confusion with the meet schedule. Scrambling to find a jersey, Davis was able to get set in his blocks and was ready to run. The confusion proved no issue for him as he completed the event with a time of  :50.34, good enough for fourth place.

BU standout Emily Alvarez was ready for her first action of the day in the 400m hurdles. Alvarez finished with a time of 1:00.46 coming in second place to Robyn Brown of the Philippines. She narrowly missed her previous collegiate-best time of 1:00.38. Alvarez continued her day competing in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:18.14 to finish third among NCAA Division II runners.

Angel Escobar finished fourth in the men's 5000 with a time of 14:45.78 while Mackenna Mason and Jax Heckers finished .38 apart for the women. In the final event of the day, Connor Bramel completed the 10000 run in 33:24.70 to give the Eagles a fifth place finish to wrap up the meet.
